The Multi-Talented Carl Wessler

If you mentioned the name Carl Wessler to a comics fan in the 1970s, the fan would say Oh yeah, he's the dude that writes all those stories for House of Mystery and House of Secrets.

Say Carl Wessler to William Gaines in the mid-1950s and Gaines would say Oh yeah, he's one of my writers on Vault of Horror and Tales from the Crypt.

Say Carl Wessler to Stan Lee in 1950 and Lee would say Oh yeah, he's my staff writer in charge of most of the Atlas crime comics like Kent Blake of the Secret Service.

Say Carl Wessler to Max or Dave Fleischer in the 1930s and they would say Oh yeah, he's an animator on our Musical Memories series of animated theatrical cartoons.

But wait, let's not skip over the 1940s in our slide back through time. While still working for Fleischer Studios, Wessler started moonlighting as an artist for comics in 1943. He drew funny animals comics, including every story in Toy Town Comics #2 from 1945 (which the hayfamzone is auctioning off on ebay this week!). Here are some of the pages that the multi-talented Mr. Wessler drew for that particular comic book:
