The Opening of Howling Pages

 

There is a new comic book store on the northwest side of Chicago! I attended the Preview Opening a week ago and the shop was quite crowded. Also in attendance, as a guest, was artist Ivan Brunetti. Above and below are shown the three phases of a piece of Mr. Brunetti's artwork; these three framed pages were presented as a triptych on one wall of the store.

Howling Pages is the name of the store and calling it a comic book store is a bit misleading. You won't find a comic book in the entire establishment. I had never heard a 32-page monthly comic referred to before as a "floppy" but those are not what this store is about. Rather, the business model of Howling Pages focuses on graphic novels and hardcover collections of the floppies. Also they feature the widest selection of small-press comics that I have ever seen in one store.
