Back to School with Marvel at Target

I was shopping at Target and was so taken with these backpacks featuring Marvel Comics images that I knew I needed to share them with everyone. Great, aren't they?

Rick Bayless Likes The Flash!

I like to cook. And I like to watch cooking shows on television because I learn from them.

Julia Child was a wonder back in the infancy of television cooking. Charlie Trotter was an inspiration to me a decade ago. And these days I watch Rick Bayless.

His show Mexico, One Plate at a Time is now in its tenth season on PBS and it's better than ever. There is a new feature of showing the preparation of a simple but complete recipe over the 30 seconds of closing credits.

Wait, you thought this was a blog about comics? Wait, it is! When watching an episode last week, I noticed that R.B. was wearing a Flash t-shirt (featuring artwork by Garcia Lopez, as you can see from the screenshot above). Could it be that R.B. is a comic book fan? I'll have to investigate that and get back to you in the future.

In the meantime you might like to investigate about Rick Bayless and his show by looking over here.

The Jack Kirby Podcast

Hooray for Jack Kirby!

The early 1970s represent my favorite period of The King's many masterful periods. This was when the gentleman returned to DC after a decade at Marvel Comics and so many dozens of amazing concepts leapt from his pen to the paper!

New Genesis and Apokolips! The Mountain of Judgment! The Source!

Apparently I'm not the only one immensely fond of The King's Bronze Age work because there is a podcast specifically devoted to it. The KirbyCast. There have been seven episodes so far, varying in length from about a half hour to about an hour, covering realms like Jimmy Olsen and The Newsboy Legion, and Spirit World, and Sandman. You can listen to them for yourself over at this website, and maybe the eighth episode will be coming soon.

Hooray for Jack Kirby!

Jack Kirby with some Avengers

Jack Kirby in the 1960s!

At a party with some of his creations!

Jack Kirby drew Thor starting with that character's first appearance in 1962's Journey into Mystery #83, and Jack Kirby drew Captain America starting with that character's first appearance in 1941's Captain America #1, and Jack Kirby drew the first cover appearance of Spider-Man in 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15.

Hooray for Jack Kirby!

Batman Antenna Topper 2019

It happened again! One day there was a Batman antenna topper atop my car's radio antenna and then the next day it was gone. Did it fall off? Was it stolen? Did it evaporate? We would have to check the security footage to know for sure, and unfortunately there isn't any.

I've gone through this cycle so many times before! Here is a blog article from 2012 in which I told you about my then-new Bat-topper that is by this time long gone. The top row of this image search shows you three or four of the Bat-toppers that I have proudly displayed through the years.

And now (drum-roll please) it's time for my Next-Generation Batman Antenna Topper! Up above I show it to you in its packaging as I received it from Asia after ordering it on ebay recently, and down below is what the Bat-topper looks like now that it's been mounted on my car antenna. Nice, right?

But the big question is: how long will this one last?

Nobody knows, but I will definitely keep you updated!
