Visiting the Castle of Frankenstein

 

Castle of Frankenstein was never on my radar when it was being published and I never bought a copy off the stands. Twenty-five magazine-sized black-and-white issues were published between 1962 and 1975, and today I'm letting you know about some interesting things about a few of the later issues.

Above is the cover of 1971's issue #16, painted by Ken Kelley. Mr. Kelley was just starting out at about this time but by the mid- to late-1970s he would be painting some masterpieces for Creepy and Eerie magazines over at Warren Publishing.

Issue #16 also featured a ten-page story written and drawn and lettered by a very young Bernie Wrightson. Here is a look at two of the pages:

Wally Wood drew a portrait of actor John Carradine to accompany an interview that ran in 1972's issue #18:

And 1967's issue #11 presented this two-page feature on Jim Steranko:

Chances are there were items of interest to comic fans in other issues also. We may investigate further in the future!
