George Gene Gustines Explains

George Gene Gustines writes articles about comic books and the comic book world for The New York Times. Once every month or two the Times will have a full tabloid page about comics, usually featuring full color photos, and the byline will be George Gene Gustines. I myself wrote a couple of comics-related newspaper articles back in the late 1970s and I definitely like it when comics get covered so lavishly in the press!

Now Mr. Gustines has written up the ten-step process he follows when preparing one of his articles as a ten-page comics story! The sharp, clean artwork is by Bill Walko, who has had a couple of stories published by DC Comics and Archie Comics and also he has drawn his own series entitled The Hero Business.

The first page of the ten pager appeared in print on page 2 of the Times a couple of days ago, and the full story can be read online over here. See if you like the interface of their online reader more than I do; it takes some getting used to that right-clicking carriage-returns you to the next row of panels rather than advancing you to the next page. (Maybe this is how all online comics reader-programs behave? I admit to having little experience with them because I generally stick to reading comics on paper.)

I did enjoy the behind-the-scenes comic story very much and I look forward to seeing many more full-color articles from Mr. G in future editions of the Times!
